1)This device is a headset that uses electrodes to identify mental states and thoughts and correlate them with actions. For example, if you move your hand it will identify the mental pattern when you move your hand and links that signal to a computer command.
ReplyDelete2) I see this being used for any simple tasks around the household like you can set the time n your microwave from across the house just by thinking it or turning on your coffee maker as soon as you wake up. These types of applications would save time doing small tasks.
3) If the technology eventually becomes more accessible, cheap, and small, then I would be open to using this for small tasks or entertainment rather than larger things like driving my car.
4) I foresee that perhaps some mental patterns may be too similar to others so it may interpret one command incorrectly making it generally inefficient. This would especially be bad for people who might drive with this, if someone thinks stop yet the mental pattern is close to take a u-turn, it may end up performing the wrong task. However, if this technology becomes refined enough, then I think that this danger would become nonexistent.

3)I personally wouldn't want a type of item such as this, because of the possibilities of interference and or malfunctions along with just the privacy of my thoughts being invaded in a sense, plus it's just a bit too futuristic for my taste.
4) As previously aforementioned, some sort of interference, and or malfunction causing for an undesired effect. Perhaps the interpretation of one thing is incorrect causing for negative effects and or general inconveniences.

Marketers of this technology have lately been branding it as a sort of “mind control” device, in which users can, with a simple thought, make their character move in a video game. I would think it interesting for this sort of technology to progress to the point where thoughts can be projected from person to person via an EEG headset.
3. Personally, I do not have much interest in owning Brainwear or any other EEG product. I more so see the devices as a gateway for further laziness among my technology-driven generation.
4. Naturally, when something that specializes in a sort of mind-control is introduced to the market, there is the scare of exploitation of a person’s thoughts and even dreams. Someone may hack into the headset or find a way to slip in a sort of software and end up monitoring the user’s brain activity.

It could also be used in education to determine exactly what students are thinking, and how to better get them the knowledge that they need. Another possible use could be in police investigations, allowing for more accurate lie detector tests.
3. I would love to try out one of these devices, I think it would be extremely interesting to see what my brain was doing, and how i could possibly use one in an actual situation.
4. Some possible dangers could be companies monitoring or collecting the data collected from the devices, and using the data to control you and your way of life, such as raising insurance bills if it thinks that you are a liability.

For example a play is being preformed and the stagehand needs to turn off the lights, he/she could simply do it with the headset. Another use for it is human brain research.

1. The headset maps your brain and and measures your various functions. It can also detect different facial expressions and mental commands. You can also link your facial and mental commands to keystrokes. However, it can't read your mind so it sucks.

4.) Of course the hardware or designs could be sold to various companies and they could use the device to track your brain habits to either collect information, or assign advertisements and such. Obviously we are no where close to reading minds, but as they get more advanced it might be possible.
I am pretty sure the device is a thing that you put around your head and you connect the ends of it to your head and it can kind of read your mind, so like if you move your hand it will pick that movement up and it will be able to identify it. Which is pretty weird because like I am pretty sure that it will eventually be able to read your mind and probably maybe even be able to start thinking for you which is pretty weird and not something I would want because maybe it would like be able to send your thoughts to a database or something like that and it would store whatever you think when you are wearing the device.

It would also probably be used for playing video games because it can track your thoughts and motions and stuff like that so it would probably be used for gaming. Furthermore it could probably help identify and diagnose mental disabilities and disorders and it could also probably help find a cure for them.
No, I personally would not want something like this because it probably would cost a lot of money, but even if it did not cost a lot it also looks very experimental which is not very good because since it can read my thoughts it could like be storing them in a database somewhere which is very bad. 1. The EEG is a headset device that can measure electrical signals given out by the brain by the brains neurons. This device is placed on the users scalp then the electrodes read the signals through the users scalp. This technology can be used to control video game avatars and also cars too. A major way this device can be used is for amputees to control their limbs with their mind by sending signals to move the body part. This could help people with spinal word injuries and ALS by mobilizing their wheelchair or to communicate better.

If the EEG was connected to a high tech prosthetic limb, then the user could use its mind to send signals to the limb to move which way the users mind commands it to. Another way this product could be used is in video games. I think that this could be great for virtual reality games or even just games in general. The EEG could be used to control the avatar in the game making games even more realistic. Lastly I think the EEG would be perfect for controlling cars. The reason is I think driving a car with ones mind would create less accidents because you would have quicker reaction time to stop a car because you can just think of the car to stop and it will.
3. I wouldn't use the EEG in the stage it is in right now because of the flaws and research still being conducted on EEG. Right now EEG wouldn't be safe to drive a car and can barley control a ball to roll around. Also the electrodes need to be placed directly on the users scalp to make accurate reading and the majority of the population has hair. All of these examples is why i wouldn't use the EEG. Once advancements are made on this technology is would fully support the EEG, but at the current stage it is basically useless for recreational use.
4. There are many dangers I can for see with with EEG. One danger that is possible with the EEG is someone hacking ones headset and controlling the users prosthetic limbs. Another danger that the EEG would cause is if a person hacked the device and sent a shock to the users brain that could injure or even kill the user. The EEG could be used to control cars too and if that was taken over then someone else could control the users vehicle. Lastly if the EEG was advanced enough to read the users thoughts and someone got into the the users EEG, then the hacker could invade the users thoughts and could steal private information which in my opinion would be the biggest danger of the EEG.

a.This can be good for people that have lost limbs since they can control their legs or arms with close to normal means.
b.Construction equipment that so people can lift objects or tools much heavier than a normal person can by using machines like an iron man suit and using this to control it.
c.VR, the ultimate use for this with an example game like sword art online. I can now see this game in my future.

It is not directly with this device it would be with the machines that it controls. Let's say it is an iron man like suit to help you lift things and it glitches and goes too far, that could be very bad.

Limb replacement - This is occurring in large part already, but this could be great progress for people who must operate mechanical limbs.
Video games - This could lead to a much more immersive video game experience. Especially with the possibilities of VR coupled with EEG.
3.) I would like to test this out at least once. However, I don’t believe that I would use it on an everyday basis. I think the technology is fascinating and would be more interested in studying the minds of others and how the device captures the patterns.
4.) I could see people becoming reliant on this technology which could cause severe problems if it ceases to function. For example, if this technology were used for mechanical limbs. If the technology stops working, the limb is basically immobilized. There could also be potential danger from prolonged use of the device. It could result in brain wave interference or potential electrical shock. However, I don’t expect this would be a problem if the device is used only occasionally and has built in safeguards against such an occurrence.

While it does monitor and detect neutron firings, it cannot read the thoughts in your mind. ReplyDelete2) Well, the three main categories it is marketed for is “research”, “self training and assessment” and “mind control”. Let’s delve into each one in more detail. This technology could be a huge key in unlocking the brain to better diagnose mental illnesses or deficiencies. They’ve already started the creation of ‘apps’ that would allow for tracking data about the brain activity and showing where on the head the brain is active on 3D models. Furthermore, this kind of technology opens the door for further ‘apps’ that could target specific parts of the brain or a more specific view of certain processes. The possibilities are truly endless when it comes to this device’s application to medical research. Also, outside of the hospital, you had a practical application in the home as more simple applications could allow you to train and track your own mental behavior and even instruct you to do tasks to improve your mind. Finally, with the idea of ‘mind control’, you can play games and operate drones and many other things. The most important part of operating anything with an EEG is focusing completely on that. Otherwise, it doesn’t work as well.
3) This kind of technology is too invasive for me. Imagine what you could do if you hacked this kind of device. While it isn’t mind control, this kind of technology sees your brainwaves and how your neurons are firing. A intelligent hacker could know what all that data means and make use of the knowledge. Look at the Google Glasses. It was a harmless device that allowed for smart wearable technology on the face. However, people found a malicious way to use it and did just that. It may not seem invasive but it is. Also, the device just looks generally clunky and uncomfortable. Something like the one depicted on the Emotiv website just doesn’t look comfortable.
4) The dangers are the ones I described above. That kind of neurological information could do a lot of good regarding diseases and mental illnesses. But imagine if that got into the wrong hand. For example, governments could use that to train soldiers and improve their brain power to be better at killing. Mercenaries and hackers could look into people’s minds and learn how to trick them based on deficiencies in their mind. The same could be said for internet scammers. Really, anyone could exploit this technology.

If we harness this technology to the maximum level, it may be use on the medical field to enable precise operations or jusr simply enable disabled patients. Ofc, it can also be implemented to different kinds of vehicles as well as to simply just to make life easier and efficient.
3. If it's a couple of steps further ahead, I might consider getting one. But with its current limitations only to compatible programs or devices, it would really be hard for them to sell it to me and some people alike.
4. I do not really know about all that brain shenanigans is about but it's an external device for Christ's sake. Its a Mind reading headset, which is used to control technology and devices by reading your brain signals.

It can be also used in entertainment sector like it can operate your tv, control drones and stuff like that.
I wouldnt use it as its still in its early stages, if it becomes more popular and certified then may be I would consider using it.
As I mentioned before it is still in its early stages, and havent been tested or used on regular basis, so the side effects of the mind mapping tech is unknown.

Although limited, video games could benefit from this technology once it gets to a more viable state. Virtual reality experiences could be created that require no controllers and there are possibilities here for a more reliable and easy Virtual Reality experience. Finally, a person being able to just do daily tasks with no need to even move. For some people it could just be a way to be lazy, but for some, it could change their way of life. People who are completely unable to move themselves could make inputs into machines to drastically improve their basic capabilities.
3. I do not really see any kind of practical use for myself and I would probably not have anything this could be used for in terms of what I want. If it could be integrated into my average day then maybe but it doesn’t seem practical.
4. In its current state there are very few if any dangers to this. Technically though, this could be placed into the category of allowing people to just completely avoid their lives but I think that would fit better with the Virtual reality category which could apply if it was integrated into it. At the moment though, with the very limited capabilities there are not any real dangers at the moment.

This can also be used in gaming to control a person's character or use certain items. And perhaps in the field of psychology, you could use it to scan a person's brain.
3. In the article it talks how the technology can be used how to drive. I feel this could be very dangerous because, what if you're thinking about making a right turn or a left turn but haven't quite decided what you want to do. What if it then makes a decision for you because it thought you wanted to turn left?

3.)This device already existed before and I have personally tried something similar. At the Arizona Science Center there was this device that supposedly read you mind and was a simple to use device. I would like to experience something this advance in my life because I think it would be cool to try and let a computer use my brain waves to simulate a mechanical arm.

But if I was a crazy science man I would use it for "good" and test it on people and maybe monkeys to see the differences of how they work.
