The No Tech Generation
1. What is this article about? (Describe in detail)
2. Why do you think there is such a disconnect with the older generation and technology?(Explain in detail)
3. How do you think this issue could be resolved to help the older generation to understand technology? (Give me 2 examples)(Explain in detail)
1. This article is about the age groups and their relation about the internet and social media. It explains the use of cell phones, computers and such.
ReplyDeleteLastly, this article talks about how well elders and other ages will be when they use modern day technology, with things like Parkinson's
and memory loss.
2. There is such disconnect with the elders and technology because back in the day technology was either not around or very much limited. Nowadays technology is everywhere and used in everyday life. It is hard for elders to understand and adapt to technology because they did not grow up with all of it.
3. I believe that there is no real solution with this problem. It will be more than impossible to sit down with everybody over 80 and talk about every single use of technology. One answer might be forcing them to use a little bit of technology everyday and build up their knowledge.
ReplyDelete1. This article is about how older generations use technology less and less they get older compared to the younger generations. It also shows how depending on how much a person makes and how old a person is how much technology they use.
2. I think the reason why older generations do not use technology is because they are more set in their ways then younger generations are. They also did not need it to become successful so they may think there is no reason to spend time getting to learn something different.
3. A way to get the older generation use new technology is to make it seem less scary to learn. Make it seem less complicated and easy, that way they are more likely to use it instead of turning it down.
1 It's about the use of technology as people get older.
ReplyDelete2.Older ways of doing things may stick with them.
3.Technology designed for older people or far more streamlined technology.
1) This article goes in depth in regards to the lack of technology usage by the older generation and those that are visually or hearing impaired.
ReplyDelete2) I think there is a disconnect because they did not grow up with smart phones or anything like that, and they instead prefer to use the technology that they have been using for many years, like simple cell phones, or email.
3) Making technology simpler to use will make a difference, but most elders don't care to learn so there is nothing that we can actually do except provide the opportunities, nor do I think it is necessary to get more of the older generation using modern technology.
ReplyDelete1.) This article talks about the generation of the old folks who are still around during the technological era. These people who have not had much experienced with technology are less bound to use it to their advantage for they do not have the capacity to learn many features in little time that they just give up. Getting used to an old oven is nice, because of its easy functionality and less components. If they were to use a newer model, there would be confusion for the newer model has more functions.
2.) There is the problem with old folks getting used to technology in general. They tend to have the idea that phones and the internet isn’t useful as they would expect. For them, it is hard to make that huge transition from the past to the present, but it is not impossible. Simple technology is good for them as well as everyone, but using iPads and smartphones is not in their agenda.
3.) A resolution to this situation is making old folks getting used to the easy parts of the new world. An iPhone is very simple to use as well as an Apple watch. This can be a start for them to getting used to technology being around them and make them interact with technology more. Another method getting people used to using technology is just taking the necessary components first, what I mean is having a smartphone with just the phone and message app on it which will be less complicated to use and serve its true purpose for them until their knowledge of the internet expands.
1. This article is about how older generations shy away from technology and advancements made in today's world. It has surveys about technology use among older people, and how the use of technology can help with problems that older people generally have.
ReplyDelete2. Older people refuse to use newer technology because they think that all of the new features and content is unnecessary and want to keep it simple. Back then people actually went outside and socialized like normal people, now a days people stay in their houses all day and play video games. Not that playing video games isn't normal, but you have to get out and talk to friends some time.
3. The issue can be resolved by showing them how to use the basic functions of the technologies and benefits of them. From there they can discover for themselves the many functions and advantages of these technologies (such as a smartphone).
1. The article is about how older people usually older than 65 don’t use the internet as much. It talks about how some companies are trying to help older people and the percentages of technologies that older people use.
ReplyDelete2. Older people are used to a way of living and old habits die hard. They never had snapchat and skype and the only way to see someone was to see them in person. They didn’t have the technologies we have now.
3. If the technologies lean more towards older people then younger people might not like it as much and some older people don’t want to use the technology.
1.This article is talking about old people and technology how sir tint age of old people don’t know how to use technology .
ReplyDelete2.There is a disconnect with technology and elder because how there are so many buttons on an iPad they wouldn’t know what the button do and it shows that 85-year-olds don’t know how to use technology and it would be hard for them.
3. Well their grandkids can show them how to use a iPad or a iPhone but they would need their grandkids to be there at any time when they need help or they could go to a business like generation tech support we could help them with their technology and show them how to use an iPad or an iPhone but will be there to help out at any time .
1) This article describes the statistics of technology/internet/device usage of people of older ages. The general premise is that the older a person is at this point in time, the less that they tend to use or know how to use technology.
ReplyDelete2) I feel that the disconnect right now is that these older people did not grow up surrounded by such technology. younger people have been around technology for quite a long period of their life, so they naturally know how to use it due to it having larger impact on their life.
3) this issue really isn't something that can be solved unless people that are trusted by these older people are there to teach them about it. Another c=solution is that we only assimilate simple technology (such as Apple products, OSX, etc.) that is easier to use and is all that is needed to perform anything that someone their age needs to do.
1. The article is about how older people generally don’t use technology as much as younger people are today. It goes into depth on a lot of the statistics on how few older people are using technology and how many younger people use technology. It also gives some reasons and opinions why older people may not be using technology.
ReplyDelete2. I think a lot of older people don’t use new technology because they grew up not using it and why start using something now that’s just complicated and that they lived fine without before. Also, they usually have a hard time figuring out how to use technology when they have the chance to. Many older people also have problems with sight, hearing, and other things, which just usually happens when you get older, and just makes it even harder for them to learn how to use technology when it was already hard for them to learn something brand new to them in the first place.
3. One way to help older people understand how to use technology would be to make very simple and clear tutorials on how to use the technology, which a lot of things have, but a lot of tablets and computers just expect you to know what to do and often that’s not the case and the person might not know how to use many features. Another way to help is to make the technology’s features more easily accessible, which many companies are now doing with voice programs like Siri and Cortana making it easier to navigate and use the device.
1. The article is about how the older generation of americans are not as tech savvy as some of the younger generation. It also talks about how the older generation of america uses technology and who they go to if they need help.
ReplyDelete2. I feel that the older generation in america are disconnected from the newer technologies because there old technology habits stick with them. But not for all of them. For example, my grandmother got an iPhone 6 and she needs help moving apps around on her phone. I help her and then she has this expression that looks like I just cured cancer or something. I've seen the same expression on other elderly americans. This is because all this technology is basically alien to them. The same thing will happen with this generation when we are that age.
3. I think that creating companies like Generation Tech Support is a great way to teach elders about new technology. The simplest thing like moving an app can seem like an amazing thing to elderly folks. But even tech support cannot help everyone so it is our job to teach the elderly about new technology so that they can jump in on the fun as well.
1. This article is about the amount of technology use in the elderly. It show the percent of tech use in the different generations and how the age changes the tech use of people.
ReplyDelete2. I think there is a disconnect between older generations and technology because the older gen people never really had much tech when they were
young and got to experance tech like are gen did.
Another reason the older gen people are disconnected from tech is because they don't know how to use tech know one ever thought them.
3. This issue could be resolved through people helping older people get used to tech an example of that is generation tech with helps people with there tech issues.
1. This article discusses a census of how many elder people actually use types of technology, and how they are not as savvy as the current generation when it comes to using tech. It goes into detail on why elderly are not as technologically capable as the modern generation.
ReplyDelete2. The eldery's limitations on new technology has to due with the fact that they did not have the access to these inventions when they were kids, where millennials were raised and born with technology by their side. Older people tend to stray away from trying new things, which leads to them having little knowledge or experience on new devices.
3. This social issue could be resolved if people dedicated some time to let older people understand why technology is useful, and is almost a requirement to live in the 21st century. If they were given proper tutorials that are helpful and informative, more elderly would be able to learn how to use modern technology.
1. This article is talking about how older people, with one foot in the grave, don't use technology as much as younger people. This is mostly because of their old bones being unable to work a smart phone properly and the fact that they don't understand how to not download malware on their computers.
ReplyDelete2. The much older generation has not had technology for most of their lives, the newer generation has been born into it. Plus, it also has to do with their mental capacity. A senile old man will not be able to use a smart phone better than a 13 year old.
3. First answer, the older generation needs to die off and make way for the new kids. Second answer, just have classes to teach these people how to use technology that they're unfamiliar with.
The article is about how the older generation of Americans are not exactly attuned to the technology we use now. And it shows how many Americans do not use the internet. It gives ways and possibilities that the older generation can use but it does not seem to be very affectual.
ReplyDeleteThe reason why there is such a disconnect is because they did not have the technology throughout almost their entire life and are just introduced to it later in life when it is harder to learn new things. It is just like the saying says, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks”.
I don't think this can really be resolved, but the only few ways i can think of are make technology more attractive for their generation and make it more useful so they have a better reason to use it. Or give them easier access to technology and not have it so expensive.
1. The article discusses that senior citizens over the age of 65 do not use the internet, and that they have not adapted to this generations technology like the generation below 65 years old.
ReplyDelete2. They did not have access tot he inventions and technology we have today, it is also very hard for them to adapt to them. Today's generation was born into technology that is why it is so easy for us.
3. I do not think this can be resolved, the only way they can is it make it more useful or give them easier access and not to be so expensive.
1.) The article goes in depth about how senior citizens are without, or choose not to use the otherwise common technologies that are used today.
ReplyDelete2.) The disconnect between the elderly and technology today is pretty simple to answer. Those people were born on the cusp of a rapid expansion of the technological world, a world that came to be so quickly that many were too overwhelmed to fully immerse themselves in it. Whereas anyone born today is born into an age in the middle of this progression, and children today are adapting to the speed of this progression. So any new advancements are quickly eaten up by today's young or experienced people.
3.) Truly this is not something that has a remedy. Any who are still behind on this age are simply put, on their way out of the door anyway, so there is quite little to do as far as helping these people become familiarized with the new world they live in. The best thing to do for these people is make technology especially user-friendly, as well as teaching these people the basics of any technology hey would need to get through life easily, such as through a weekly letter or a cheap class at a public place, such as a library.
1. The article goes into detail on the reasons why the elderly do not access many different types of technology available today. Two key points brought up were affordability and access.
ReplyDelete2. I agree with the article. I think the two main reasons why there is such a disconnect with the older generation and technology is due to access and affordability. Many of the older generation did not have access to it when they where younger. Technology is ever changing and as people age it gets more difficult to embrace change. As they age it gets harder to learn new things due to various health issues and or closed mindedness. Technology is very expensive. As people age and they have fixed incomes it is difficult for them to justify spending money on something that they never really used or completely understood.
3. The older generation likes to learn one on one from someone they trust. I think grandchildren should teach the older generation how to use technology. All Senior living facilities should give all residents access to various forms of technology and create and fun learning environment for them that includes their families. It would be great if there was someone to access what form of technology is appropriate based the older adults personal health needs (blind, deaf ect.).
1. This article is about how the older generation doesn't use technology as much as most millennials.
ReplyDelete2.I think older people don't use it as much because they like to do things the old fashioned way instead of sitting at a computer.
3. i think we could start with making technology a little more user friendly and make it so that the people are engaged with it instead of getting angry because they cant figure out how to use it.
1.) This article examines the technology gap between the generations. Research has shown that members of the older generation (generally 85 and up) are not participating in the technology revolution as of late. Technology is advancing so quickly that people cannot keep up. This leaves the older generation using outdated tech. For example, it says that 61% of the people surveyed use a cell phone, but only 3% of those are smartphones. The article also touches on the fact that this is not a problem that will simply disappear. We will always be creating new technology, so there will always be a generation that is left behind unfortunately.
ReplyDelete2.) I believe there is a disconnect because of the rate at which technology is evolving. Technologies are being developed today that may not be fully released for another two decades. In all honesty, there is no reason for the older generation to learn these new technologies. Because by the time they learn them, there will already be something new on the market. This generation did not grow up with technology in the way that many of us have. The technologies that many of us find commonplace are completely foreign to them.
3.) The biggest thing that we can do to help the older generation is to provide simple education to them about the technologies at their disposal. We have to show them that technology isn’t scary. One solution that is already in practice is companies like Generation Tech Support. The company was founded on this idea of trying to lessen the technology gap. The older generation needs to have easy access to information that they need in order to operate their devices. Another option would be to provide classes at community colleges or libraries, where people could attend and learn about technology. I don’t believe that this problem can ever be resolved completely simply because there will always be new technologies.
1) The article discusses reasons as to why many elderly people are not using technology or keeping up with technological advancements. Reasons being access, cost, and rapid development of improved tech.
ReplyDelete2) There is a gap between their time and now. In a sense, the technological revolution leaves the elderly out. There is too much of a rapid development for those of age to keep up. There is also the fact that the elderly feel as if they do not need such technology to live their everyday lives.
3) User friendly technology would be a step in the right direction as far as assisting the well aged peoples of the world to gain the same understanding of technology. The only other way to really mend the solution to some extent is to create a way to make the accessibility of such tech much easier to obtain, allowing for some of that feeling to subside. Though, with the way of advancements now, there will likely not be a permanent solution.
1. The article about the growing population of people who are not keeping up with technological advances and most of them being the elderly, due to its cost and the advancement rate being to high to keep up with.\
ReplyDelete2. The fact is that in the last 50 years technology has grown and advanced exponentially and it can be hard to keep up with it all, most people (elders 65 and up) have lived their lives with at most a television and a house phone so now that there are all of these high tech smart phones and LED ultra 8k smart tvs they figure that they do not need it and are fine with the old nokia 3310 and a black and white tv that they already have. Also some people are less interested in the technology as much as other things like politics and economy. The fact is also that its too expensive, with a pension of only a thousand dollars or so, most elders cant afford to keep up with it all since even the basic new stuff is over 400 dollars
3. The best way to teach the elders of technology and its usefulness is to make it more accessible, add bigger letters, make it easy to use and teach them in simple understandable terms on what it does and whats its for. Because when people start hearing GPU CPU ICU Motherboard GTX Cards and so on they get scared and walk away. Best way to close the gap is make it simple and understandable.
1. This article describe the huge gap between anyone under 85 and those 85 years old or older -- who are also known as “the old old”. From there, it presented a large quantity of statistics to show what most people already think. However, the shocking part of this article was the percentages of those over 75 who use such technologies. For the most part, you would think that most don’t but there always about, I guessed, 10-15% who do. However, in this survey, they showed incredibly low percentages such as smartphones, tablets and laptops being used by 3%, 3%, and 8% of adults over 75, respectively. The article goes on to explain how technology ‘is an enabler; it is not the solution’, a statement that I didn’t even consider. They ended on the need to learn as the world is quickly leaving them in the dust.
ReplyDelete2. The simple reason for this disconnect is the time they were born into. Back 85 years ago, the word ‘tablet’ made people think of paper and phones were much simpler and straightforward in their purpose. Going from such a simple time to the complexity of digital devices today causes confusion, especially at an older age where the body starts to break down with health issues that can weaken the brain in understanding, reasoning and learning. But kids and teenagers and younger adults were born into a time of digital cellphones with the current teenagers and kids using smartphone that have about 10,000 times the ability than the older basic phones. The point is that this generation was born into such technology that is becomes a sixth sense to us while the older generation can’t wrap their heads around it.
3. One option would be to offer a simplified version of phones or tablets that can slowly teach the more advanced features as they grasp the concept of the phone at each stage. It’s similar to the different subjects in school. You wouldn’t teach a first grader calculus. You start with counting, move on to adding, turn them into equations, teach them functions and then teach them to take a derivative. If tech giants were to make a simplified version of their operating systems, it could be a way to rope in the older generation. Another idea would be a one-on-one class with someone who knows how to use a device to let them ask whatever questions they want and become more comfortable with the device. By giving a comforting environment with a person that wants them to learn, it could motivate them to learn it.
1. This article is aimed to inform of American senior citizens 85 years of age and older “not participating in the online revolution.” The author of the article, Philip Moeller, goes into detail explaining the gap of technology use by the older generation and offering explanations on why the gap is present based on a survey sent out by Linkage. The questionnaire was answered by well over one-third of participants the 5,000 community residents whom it was sent to. The survey found that seventy-one percent of those who did complete it were older than seventy-five, with some having vision or hearing impairment problems. Statistics concerning smartphone, tablet, eReader, and laptop usage were all below ten percent, though cell phone had the highest percent usage amongst the older generations. Scott Collins, who is the president of the Linkage company, tells that there is such a gap between generations regarding technology usage due to many reasons, including vision and hearing problems not paid attention to in terms of design of the product and the baby boomers being rather “resistant” to this movement in technological advancement.
ReplyDelete2. The article explains quite nicely as to why there is a disconnection with the older generations and modern technology. Many products may not tend to their needs, especially in the case of those with sensory impairments. Speaking from what I have observed among the elderly of my family, the older generations also tend to be pretty conservative, or even humble, when it comes to the usage of fancy products from large-name corporations. More often than not, those of older age simply do not know how to use the new smartphones or laptops and may not have anyone to teach them. Interestingly, the survey by Linkage found that some of the elderly would find it most suitable and comfortable to learn the ropes of their new devices from their doctor or someone else they are close to.
3. One minute problem I saw with my grandmother was she had trouble discerning what some icons meant on her iPhone, one example being she had trouble taking pictures because she did not really know what buttons to press and always mixed up the photo-taking button and the filters icon. Sometimes she would even hold down the photo-taking button and end up snapping tons and tons of photos. Other than the obvious solutions of adding text below these sorts of icons in Apps to show what they mean or even to give them more specific names (my grandmother did not know the Safari App on her iPhone was an internet browser), I do not think there is too much of a viable solution for simplifying technology even more amongst the older generations for the simple reason of these older generations keeping their old habits. For example, I link my grandmother holding down the photo-taking button on her iPhone to the habit of doing so with the same physical button on a camera. Habits like these stem from application of how older technology worked and just in terms of overall comfortability.
1. The article is about the fact that there is an older generation of people that rarely use or even have any knowledge of some modern technology. Mostly focusing on the ideas that most people over the age of 65 do not use very much modern technology. They have data recorded showing that out of the people who took the poll, less than half of them use very much modern technology.
ReplyDelete2. In my opinion, the reason is just simply that they did not grow up with the technology. The older generation being presented are old enough that they have not had most of this technology for most of their lives. They simply just are more used to a different type of life than this technology focused world. The newer generations have spent their entire lives surrounded by high-tech devices while these people have possibly had it for less than half of their lives. Just the time frame difference greatly changes an outlook on technology.
3. It is just simply a case of keeping these people more informed as the world changes to a point where technology is the center of the lives of the people. Tech help services are already available for these people they just need to know about them. The other thing that will solve the problem is just time. As generations start and end we will eventually not have such a large divide. Eventually, the generations present will have all grown up in the same situation. There still might be some, but as long as society keeps the people informed, This No Tech generation will eventually integrate themselves better into technology.
1. This article is about disconnected the older generations are with technology. The article has data and surveys to support their claims about technology.
ReplyDelete2. I think that the reason that older generation do not know much about technology is because they didn't grow up being surrounded by technology, whereas kids today from around 3 years and up practically have their own phones and technology that they will likely upgrade and keep into the later years of their life. The older generations didn't have any of the same kinds of technologies that we see today.
3. I think one way to help introduce the older generations to technology is through ways that would seem beneficial to them, such as interacting with their family and friends. There are also a great many things in todays world that use technology to speed up meaningless tasks, so getting people to understand this would be paramount.
1) The Article is about how older generation people that don't use technology get some knowledge of how to use it. It shows the gap of older people from 80 and older to 80 and under technology.
ReplyDelete2)I think that there is such a disconnect because the older people didn't have technology in the older days so they never grew up with phone or computers to use so they never used them. But now we have technology and the older generation doesn't know anything about them cause nobody has taught them.
3)I think that younger kids would be able to help them very well because pretty much every kid has a phone or computer to use. Something else that could help would be a app that shows a guide on how to do something on there phone or computer to make it easier for them.
1. The article discusses the generational gap between older people and modern technology. In the studies done by the group, most older people rarely took advantage of smartphones or even the internet. Some of the technologies they looked into were even into single digit percentages of use. Very few of these older people have the money to access these technologies, but they also do not seem to have much of an interest in them.
ReplyDelete2. The older generation views the new iPhone or Samsung Galaxy like most people would view speaking on stage, or a bear. They feel like they would break it or mess it up in some way or another if they tried to use it; they don't understand it and just how simple it is, and it scares them. The issue becomes how to get them to see it not as something to fear, but instead as something that can enrich their lives.
3. Making technology more "user friendly" is great, but that can only go so far. What we consider "user friendly" older folks might consider surgical, clean, and (as mentioned before) intimidating. That's where a service like Generation Tech Support comes in; the entire reason for this business' existence is (for the most part) to be the solution for this problem. For $10, the customer can get about ten minutes of lesson time, or they can buy a Connect Card (a card that functions a bit like a Starbucks Card) for $30, which gives them an hour of time. During that period of time, the customer can ask whatever questions they have about their device, and the warm and welcoming GenTech will teach their question to the best of their ability.
1 This article is about how most people of the oldest generation are not familiar to today's technology like smartphones, computers, and other new technologies. It talks about studies and percentages of use like about 4 out of 10 people who are over 65 use the Internet.
ReplyDelete2 I think there is such a disconnection with technology of the older generations because they are not used to everything moving and changing so fast. They never had the access to everything like we do. When growing up for them word spread very slow, so people did not need to worry about new technologies because it would not reach them fast enough. As for us, we get to know all the newest gadgets and updates in minutes and the older generation is just not used to it. Also technology was never focus towards them just the new generation because everything just gets smaller and the older generation can't see or function precisely anymore.
3 The older generation can be helped getting connected by making a branch or line of technology directed towards them. For example make the buttons and screen font bigger, make the screen an easy to read, and let the technology do simpler tasks that are not complicated. Another thing that can be done for improvement is have a service to actually teach them how to perform tasks like searching the web or browsing images in some kind of class.
1. This article talks about the views that older people have on technology.
ReplyDelete2. Their just old and are not used to this sort of modern tech.
3. The makers could make the tech less complicated to use which they already have or allow a simpler version altogether.
1. This article describes the the relationship between older generations and low tech knowledge. Most of these people are completely disconnected from the new technology of this time, and thus ignore it entirely.
ReplyDelete2. Older generations can feel disconnected with modern technology because it is beyond their time. The entire computer revolution only began a few decades prior- now that it's grown so much, it can overwhelm a large majority of this population. New inventions come out more frequently than ever, and it is difficult to stay on top of this technology.
3. This issue could be solved by gradual introduction- rather than overwhelm seniors with a hoard of information all at once, a few simple parts thrown in here and there can make technology much more approachable. Another important facet of this problem is lack of information. Bad information, or no information, can make technology seem unnecessary to many people.
1. The article is overlooking the statistics of a survey about elderly use of technology. It views percentages of what they own within their household to give an accurate representation of how they interact with technology.
ReplyDelete2. The elderly grew up without technology, so naturally they have learned to live without it and reject it from them. They never used it when they were growing up, so why would they have to need to use it now.
3. If we could convince the elderly to use some the technology that we use on a daily basis, they might be convinced to use them regularly. consider the simple mode on the samsung phone. It makes the UI much simpler and would be easier for an elderly person to use and not get lost in all of the buttons that they don't understand what they do.
1. This article shows the statistics of the relationship of use of technology between elderly people. And the article shows why elderly people don't use technology as.
ReplyDelete2. I think that there is such a large disconnect with their relationship with technology is because they may feel that it is too complicated and that they're so "out-dated" that they cannot use technology.
3. I think that we can help the elderly people connect with technology better by helping them out and teaching them on how to use it if they are willing to learn, and we can show the elderly people what good comes out of technology, so this will convince them to be willing to learn.
1. This article is about how the elderly cannot connect with the technology of today, as they have not grown up knowing and learning it. Because of this, many dismiss technology altogether and refuse to learn at all.
ReplyDelete2.The human mind is more accepting of what it learns at a young age. Because this target generation is too old to be familiar with this technology, and technology itself is presented as a big, daunting war zone of information, many old folks are scared away, or don't want to damage their pride and dignity by admitting they are novices at something.
3. If programs could be made to teach the elderly about technology by making it less intimidating, this could go a long way. Institutions like GenTech will also help. Simpler navigation, or an incorporation of an RPG-like "leveling" system where features are unlocked as they are mastered could also greatly help.
1. This article is about the divides in technology. Those divides being age groups, and their relation to technology. It explains how older people use technology and the percentage of old people that use technology over age 50, 60 ,70 etc. In addition to that the article discusses disabilities elder people have and how it makes technology much harder for them to use. Some of the disabilities the article talks about are vision problems, mobility and hearing impairments ,and Parkinson’s. Furthermore the article also gives percentages of what internet device elderly people use which was a very interesting statistic to look at, it gives a lot of insight of what elderly people are most likely to use to access the internet.
ReplyDelete2. Personally I think there is such a disconnect with older generations and technology because technology was not really a thing in the 40s 50s 60s etc… I mean there was like TVs radios and telephones I guess there was technology but if you look at a telephone from the 50s it literally looks nothing like a phone from 2016 and that goes with all technology from back then. Also technology is kind of complicated when you first start any piece of technology is a little confusing. But when you have been using technology everyday for like 5 years it is kind of like muscle memory, but for senior generations they might use a TV daily but that is pretty much it and TVs are not very complicated.
3. One resolution I have to make elderly people better with technology would be to give them instructions on how to use the technology they are using. This would help so they are not as confused as they would be if they did not read instructions. Because if elderly people did not read instructions when they started using technology they would probably be like “what does this do” or “how do I do this?” And because they would need help they would have to ask someone in real life because they would not know how to open Chrome to ask the question they have. The other resolution I have to propose is if they are on an iPhone they could ask Siri a question and Siri would probably be able to answer the question they have because I have had some questions and I have asked Siri and personally the question has always been answered by Siri.

This article talks about the disconnect of older generation with the new technologies, it also talks about how you are less likely to use technology when you grow older.
ReplyDelete2) There is a disconnect because I think the new tech have became more complicated to learn, and other reason might be that the tech during their time might be easy to use and they already know how to use it so they are considering upgrading their cellphones to smartphones.
3) I think it would be useful to hold seminars for them to teach them tech. It would also be useful if they make technology with less features but useful for older generation that way they dont have to worry about learning useless features.
1. Old people are not using technology even though technology is very easy to use nowadays, with voice command, and other things to help them out to do things. Old people want to be taught by people they trust to use technology but the problem is that most people just use google if they don't know how to use technology. Some contributing factors is that they don't hear very well, or see very well.
ReplyDelete2. They didn't grow up with technology like we did, and also a'lot of them have impairments. A'lot of them don't have the necessity since they don't work or go to school.
3. Maybe if old people have trouble using technology then someone younger in their family can teach them the basics. Another thing we could do is include instruction manuals for technology just for old people in the packaging.
1.the article is about a generation of no technology that you will only rely on books twitter and other Nantech because if you just have technology every day your mind will forget about books so it’s important to use books and technology every neither of them can survive alone so they will always have to stick together.
ReplyDelete2. There a disconnect because the more years past the more technology gets different so if you’re in another generation the technology over there is super different.
3.they can make technology easier to the oldest and invent something really simple that oldest can use and understand it for the technology they can say this they can so easy and use it morcraft
1.The article is about statistics of older Americans using technology in their daily lives.
ReplyDelete2. There is a huge disconnect of older people and technology today because of the fact that they did not grew with it, unlike us which grew with it. To add, their lifestyles back then cannot be easily altered by technology, and some of which, have no choice but to use it on their daily lives.
3. In order for older people to use or technology more is to make them relate to their older lifestyles. For example, Make an innovative technology, just for the elderly and elderly will have fun using it. We do not have to force them to relate to our kind of technology. A new smartphone doesn't have to be touch screen. Technology has infinite possibilities and which the elderly can relate. I mean if you even teach them instructions how to use a piece of technology in this times, they're going to have a hard time because they're not used to it. Watch as we, the younger generations grow old and not get used to the technologies released in the future...
1.This article is about technology today and technology back in the old days, and about how it has changed over the years and how much technology we have today and what it can do.
ReplyDelete2. Because they're not used to the iphones or computers like we do, we were born into the where computers, flat screen tv and iphones were already made.
3. one way is to take them to a class and teach them what it is and how to use it. My second one is to show them by an expert and let him/her tell them in his/her way.

1. The article was about the older generation or "the old old" aren't using technology when it can be found anywhere and also has assistance built into it. It shows percentages and statistics about the usage of the internet and tech among the older generation and also shows the type of tech they have with 41% of them using a PC.
ReplyDelete2. I think the reason there is such a disconnect between the older generation and technology is because they weren't born in to the technology we have today, but were born into tech like the color TV and the microwave oven which they know how to use perfectly. I think that they don't have enough time to adapt to the newer tech cause everyday new tech is invented and each year computers and smart phones are getting faster and faster and its to fast for them.
3. One way I this issue could be resolved in the older generation is by having tutors for the internet, computers, and other new technology. In the article, they said that they would like someone to tech them how to use a computer and use the internet and I think this would be a good way to solve the older generation not being able to use the internet or technology. Another way I think this problem could be solved is when an older person buys a smart phone or computer the store can assist the person at the store and give them a manual to how to use it and I think this could go for everybody and no just old people to greatly improve the amount how many people know how to use this newer technology.
1) This article is talking about how older people, with one foot in the grave, don't use technology as much as younger people. This is mostly because of their old bones being unable to work a smart phone properly and the fact that they don't understand how to not download malware on their computers.
ReplyDelete2) The much older generation has not had technology for most of their lives, the newer generation has been born into it. Plus, it also has to do with their mental capacity. A senile old man will not be able to use a smart phone better than a 13 year old.
3) First answer, the older generation needs to die off and make way for the new kids. Second answer, just have classes to teach these people how to use technology that they're unfamiliar with.

1. This article is about the fact that, in today's society, many older folks don't use the revolutionary high tech devices we have invented. It tells how only a very small amount of older people actually use things like smartphones or laptops. The article also tells some of the opinions of the older folks.
ReplyDelete2. I think that it is because of the recently accelerating technological boom is just too much for them to keep up with. We have been advancing technology so quickly and recently that it just went under the nose of most people in their later years of life.
3. For one thing, I think it would be good to have a few programs specifically for teaching older folks on the wonders of modern technology. I also think that mabay if some companies were to make devices and product targeted at the older audience, that would draw them in.
1. This article is about the disconnect between new technology and older generations. It talks about surveys on how much tech the older generation uses and how they like to learn it.
ReplyDelete2. The big reason is speed and change. The change portion is because change is hard and some people just do not like that. Speed is due to the high rate of growth and change in the tech company. If you did not know technology for the human race has been growing at an exponential rate and keeps on getting faster. That is also why we thought cancer could take years to cure and now it could take less than two years.
3. So what they should do is come to generation tech support :b. Just kidding, but I do think the one on one format is the best way to do it. The older generation just has to be open to it.
1.) This article is about a study made on different age groups and how connected they are with technology. It entails how little elderly people are connected and use technology. It also entails how these people want to learn about technology.
ReplyDelete2.) Seeing as they didn't grow up with technology the way we did, it may be harder for them to grasp. For us it is second nature and we use it every day, but they've grown to live without and don't really see the necessity in having technology, even if it would make their lives easier.
3.) The only way to really help is to just assist them and show them the different way they can use it. There's most likely no way to really do it because they might not be able to really grasp it the way we do.

ReplyDelete1. The article is about the research that has been done on a older age group about technology and electronics. In the article they use studies that have asked elderly people what type of electronics they use and who like learn technology from. One last thing the article is that the older the person the less they are connected to technology and the internet.
ReplyDelete2. I believe that there are many reasons why there is a disconnect between the older generation and technology. One reason is that the older generation didn't grow up with the current technology. An example of this is in school. Currently in our school we use the internet and computers almost every single while the older generation didn't have the internet and computers. Another reason is that I believe that there is a disconnect is that the older generation doesn't want to learn the new technology. As they didn't grow up with it, they don't see a need to know about it.
3. The issue of disconnect can be solved in many different ways. One way is to have a store like GenerationTech Support where they help with learning different technologies. Another way is to teach technology classes at retirement homes. This idea brings the technology to them. One last way is to have a younger family member teach them. This allows the elderly to know the person teaching them which which as a study showed they prefer to learn from someone they trust.
1. This article is about how older generations in America are having difficult times using new technologies. A gap in technological competence among older generations is to be expected because they have never used technologies likes the ones we have today ever due to their vey recent emergence in the past 10 or so years.
ReplyDelete2. I think there is such a disconnect because older people have difficulty learning new concepts as they are more accustomed to doing certain things certain ways sine they are older. Kids are learning how to do everything for the first time but older adults have to disregard all they have learnt about certain aspects of life to use technology.
3. This issue could be resolved a variety of ways. Stores like Generation Tech Support (where I work at) could be established to teach older generations how to use newer, more youthful technologies used by the masses. Stores like this help all age groups struggling with technology. Another way to solve this issue would to be make software that is very straightforward and easy to use to those just learning technology. A kindle would be one of these devices.
1.) this article is about the people without tech are reacting to the tech today, they are trying to adapt to the tech but it is proving to be very difficult.
ReplyDelete2.) the reason is because they try and use the tech but when they do they don't understand how to use it so they get frustrated and stop using tech all together.
3.) when they first turn on the device there could be a tutorial on how to use the device so you get to know the tech step by step and then don't get confused and frustrated at all.
1. This article is about how the elder or older people is being disconnected from the technology. Because technology for them is getting far too advanced for them to understand. Like most of the tech now doesn't really show you how to use it, you just know how to because you've been with it for so long. So you pretty much already know how to navigate with it.
ReplyDelete2. There is a huge disconnection because the advanced tech these people are pumping in now these days the elderly cannot catch up and keep up with its new tech. So its getting more difficult and the younger generation gets a hold into these things. The elder don't really stay in touch with the new things as young people do.
3. This could be solved by giving a simpler detail on the new interfaces of these new techs. Some of these I understand are too much for their old eyes to understand because some young people don't really know how to use the new tech sometimes. It would be a lot of more easy for these people if when they get new things they get a better explanation of what they are getting into or how to simply use it like a normal person.
1. The point of this article is that older people don't use technology much, mainly because its a foreign concept to them. Technology keeps moving ahead, and it becomes harder and harder to keep up with.
ReplyDelete2. Well our generation grew up while this technology was still young, so even as children we were playing on computers and learning the intricacy and navigation skills that can take years to master. We've been training our whole life and they are forced to jump on the tech bandwagon due to necessity. If those same people had the experiences we had, no doubt they would be just as capable.
3. People need a more friendly down to earth transition through this confusing technology. We cant just throw people in and expect them to figure it out. Another important factor is to go through this on a human level. Throwing Youtube videos at the elderly rarely works, they'll have questions that only real people can answer.
1.) This article talks about the generation of the old folks who are still around during the technological era. These people who have not had much experienced with technology are less bound to use it to their advantage for they do not have the capacity to learn many features in little time that they just give up. Getting used to an old oven is nice, because of its easy functionality and less components. If they were to use a newer model, there would be confusion for the newer model has more functions.
