What are three ways you can protect yourself while on the internet?

What ways are you protecting yourself while online?

What new security precautions will you be taking for the future?

    a) You dont click on adds that say "You have a prize" or "Hot singles in your area".
    b) Make your home and personal network secure by placing passcodes on them and changing up the passcodes soits harder to crack.
    c) Back-up everything that may be of importance on an USB or spare hardrive.
    2. You are protecting your information and social life. You can also be protecting your friends and family by preventing yourself from getting hacked, spammed, or contracting a virus.
    3. I will no longer click on random emails, links, and adds. I will change some of my passcodes to maybe a more secure and complex code. I will spread this information with friends and family so they to can be protected by the harsh world of the internet. It is safe to act as if everything is out to get you on the internet.

  2. 1 One way is to never give any information, on social media sites only friend people you know. Even a picture of you near shadow could give someone the one link they need to get all sorts of your personal information.
    2. I am a complete reckless idiot on the internet so i'm surprised the hacker 4chan and anonymoose hasn't gotten my info yet. I also download all sorts of risky links, although i have avoided doing so on my gaming computers.
3.Stop recklessly downloading things and I never post anything on social media and no one posts pictures of me so i'm safe there automatically.

  3. 1:
    a) An easy way to keep yourself clean from any sort of viruses or malware (from ads, at least) is to hover over a link of any kind; either it will show you where the link leads in one of the lower corners of your screen, or as a popup near your mouse
    b) Keeping any important files backed up on a USB drive is always a good way to keep your sensitive data safe
    c) The easiest thing to do is to just install a software like Norton, or McAfee, or Avast, to keep your computer clean

2: I do currently have Norton installed on my computer, and I always make sure that my flash drive has any important files on it. I don't even click on ads in the first place, so that doesn't exactly apply.

3: I'm about as safe as I can be, but you can never be too careful; I'm not saying I'll install multiple different antivirus software, that would just be redundant, and bog down my computer with way too many background processes. If anything, I'll wanna be sure to watch any public places; you don't normally think you'll get attacked at a wi-fi hotspot, but it's happened before, to a large enough number of people that it is an issue to consider.

  4. 1. a. Don't click on suspicious ads or links.
    b. Have anti virus software.
    c. Check any downloads with an anti-virus or check many respectable comments to see if it's a virus.
    2. I have anti-virus' and don't click any ads at all. Ads are stupid.
    3. Not any new ones. I'm just gonna keep doing what I've been doing for the past 9 years cause I have yet to get a virus.

  5. 1. -Only download things you are SURE are safe.
-Have back ups of important documents
-Big buttons labeled "DOWNLOAD NOW" are never good.

    2. I rarely go on sites I am not 100% sure are safe, I follow these steps except the back up files because I don't have any important documents yet. The internet is such a wonderful and dangerous place, so you need some guidelines to enjoy the cat videos and other wonders.

    3. I think when I get working I may have some important documents that I will nee to back up.

  6. 1) Don't get tricked by obvious malicious ads, websites and downloads. Don't give out any info over publicly tracked networks. Make your passwords very hard to break and hard for others to find and finally save important files to external drives.

    2) I only go to trusted websites, I also scan for viruses weekly just to be sure that I have a clean computer. I also have adblocker to prevent ads from popping up and getting in my way.

    3) When I have control of my own internet connection, I'll be behind seven proxies, so good luck hacking me then.

  7. 1.) One way you can protect yourself from potential hackers is by not revealing any social things about yourself on a social network. Things like your Social Security Number, should never be revealed... Try your best not to download anything from any sources that don't have a professional label on them. Like softonic.

2.) I go only on websites that are labelled officially, and the way I check that is through google. Checking the name or brand itself can show up as a big picture on the right. Say you were looking up MineCraft. If you typed that name in on Google, you'd get the brand name and a big picture, making it an official trademarked title.

3.) Anti-Viruses, don't go onto untrusted websites, they can get your IP from that and hack into your internet.

  8. 1a. To protect yourself on the internet, use an alias on the internet so you can protect yourself from revealing your true identity.
1b. Use services like PayPal when possible so that if the business you buy items from gets hacked, your credit card information won’t be stolen.
1c. For a quick way to remove viruses, keep one or more anti-virus programs installed on your computers, to keep your information from leaking or from having malicious programs on your PC.

    2. When you are protecting yourself online you are aware of what dangerous things exist on the internet, including hackers, viruses, and spam. As a person on the internet you want to protect your information and your appearance as almost anyone can steal your information and use it in your downfall.

    3. From now on I will change my passwords on a frequent basis, so that my accounts can never be hacked into. There are things that I have already been doing as well, including having anti-virus software, and being cautious when links are presented on my computer.

  9. 1.a. Dont open or click on any suspicious ads and websites because they can hold a virus that downloads the second you open the website or ad.

    b. Use internet antivirus software something that blocks malicious programs from entering your computer through the internet.

    c. Block pop-ups because there a number of ways that a pop-up can hold your browser hostage and could potentially lock up your computer if your not careful enough.

    2. I never click ads or pop-ups, I use antivirus software that will stop me from accessing malicious websites and quarantines them so that they can't open on my computer.

    3. I'm going to keep going what I normally do and avoid any suspicious programs or software that could potentially pose a threat to my computer.

  10. 1.
    a) Use ad block so ads that are dangerous to the computer don't pop up
    b) try to stay away from ads that are advertising things or are suspicious
    c) don't download random files on a random site that is unsafe

    2. I use ad block because just in case ads are popping up i don't see them therefore i don't have an urge to click them. I also don't download files from random site because if you do your asking for a virus.

    3. People always say to use different passwords for different things which i do but i only have like three different ones so i guess i'll start using more passwords now. For the most part everything I've been doing is keeping me safe enough cause i don't do dumb stuff but i guess better safe then sorry.

  11. What are three ways you can protect yourself while on the internet?
    1. Don’t be an idiot. Don’t click links for free money or prize sweepstakes.
    2. Don’t give away information that you don’t have to. If you are required to give information you don’t feel the need to give, give fake information.
    3. DON’T USE THE SAME PASSWORD ACROSS MULTIPLE SITES. This is the largest security issue most people have. If people get one password, they can often access your other accounts.

What ways are you protecting yourself while online?
I use a private tunnel VPN and a custom firewall that blocks certain types of packets from ever entering the network. I even have port 80 blocked by default unless a system makes a request for information. I also have certain DDOS protection built into the QOS settings of my router. I use 32-bit encryption across my VPN and block websites without a proper security certificate. Other than that, I use common sense to protect myself. I don’t give out information that I don’t want out there. I also use passphrases with 30+ characters. Most passwords are permutations of a single word. I use entire phrases. They are fast to type and impossible to brute force.

What new security precautions will you be taking for the future?
I am pretty secure with my current security routine. It’s not hard to be secure if you just set up your router and forget it. There are plenty of other things that I could do on the system side such as protecting against DNS leaking and other ways of preventing attacks. But, I think I am happy with how secure I am and I don’t really care enough to do that.

  12. 1.a.Software!!! It can be very helpful to stop viruses and spyware. Download a firewall and other security software. They allow you to stop random hacker from getting in your computer.
    b. Watch out! When you see suspicious websites do not download anything from it unless you know you can download from it.
c.If you need to give your information don't in some cases due to people can get it and use it against you.
2.I use a couple of different windows defenders that allow you to protect yourself. Also I watch for what I download.
3.I need to keep on what I have been doing because it is working. I do need to make sure no one else ends up the same with me.

  13. 1. One way you can protect yourself online is through your friendly everyday antivirus! It gives you an extra level of security and assurance against malware. Another would be not clicking random ads or links online. That is the fastest possible way to lose valuable information or get a virus disguised as a free iPad. Lastly would be to only go on sites you trust, that is the best possible way to stay safe when using the internet. If you don't have to explore, then don't.

    2. I have my handy-dandy antivirus that keeps me nice and cozy while I use the internet.

    3. Backing up all of my important files just in case my computer is ever compromised.

  14. 1) There are many ways to protect yourself while online. One way is a handy dandy antivirus software. You can also keep in mind where you go on the internet, like avoiding suspicious sites. A third method is to install a firewall, which will automatically block all suspicious things. None of these are surefire, and a combination of all of them is most effective.

    2) I have a variety of ways to protect myself online. I use an antivirus software as well as being careful in what websites I visit.

    3) I should back up all of my files in case something does happen.

  15. 1. One of the best ways to protect yourself online is through a firewall. This piece of software protects against hackers that attempt to target your computer. Two other important pieces of software are anti-virus and anti-spyware programs. They protect a computer from both spyware and viruses, which attempt to destroy data on a computer or collect confidential data from a user. Finally, the most important tip for staying safe online is to use common sense. If an ad tells you that you won a million dollars, it's definitely a scam. Keeping common sense about is extremely important when browsing the web.

    2. I keep my firewall on, and always keep my antivirus software running. With this, and skepticism, I have been able to keep my computer free of viruses and malware so far. I also use passwords that aren't obvious at all.
What new security precautions will you be taking for the future?
    3. I could probably use more secure passwords. Even though my passwords are quite obscure, they aren't very long, only 7-8 characters at max.

  16. 1. Three ways to protect yourself while on the internet are don't follow strange links as they can lead to viruses. don't try to download things from sites that you haven't done research on. and always keep your protective software up to date.

    2. I keep my protection software up to date and I don't follow strange links.

    3. in the future I will be doing more research on things I plan to download.

  17. 1. Here are three ways that the average user can stay safe and secure online:
    (1) Do not click open or download anything unless you get it checked out first. There are many websites and programs that allow users to verify (or at least try to) the safety and integrity of online material.
    (2) Manage passwords carefully. This should a be a given by now, but it is a HORRIBLE idea to use the same password for multiple accounts/websites. It would also be good to not write down passwords on sticky-notes etc. anywhere near a computer (or preferably anywhere at all).
    (3) Preform routine maintenance and update checks. New updates can patch any issues and prevent new ones from arising. Just like a house, it is good to clean things up once in a while.

    2. I use a few anitvirus programs, an adblocker and I never download any material unless I trust it. I also run maintenance ever 2-3 weeks and change passwords ever few months.

    3. I'd like to consider using pass-phrases instead of 8-16 character passwords. I should also back up more of my program files so they don't get deleted again.

  18. 1. I can protect myself online by using adblock to block potentially malignant ads, to make sure I know exactly what I’m clicking on when I click it, and by making trustworthy transactions that don’t involve a lovely gentleman from Africa who promises to triple my interest rate and make me a millionaire.
    2. I protect myself on the internet by only visiting websites that are trustworthy (not 4chan). I also refrain from releasing personal information about myself. Sometimes I meet new people through gaming, but the most I’ll release about myself is the state I live in and my age.
    3. To increase my security I am going to change and vary the passwords I use, and I am going to make sure I buy fewer items that have unnecessary wifi connection. Why would I need my trash can to connect to the internet?

  20. 1. Obviously the number one thing to stay safe on the internet is to never give out personal information on sketchy websites. That’s something I’ve been taught since I was in elementary school. It’s smart to not really give anyone your passwords, even if you trust them. I’ve never given my passwords to anyone, so I usually just type it in for them. One final way you could stay safe on the internet is finding some sort of way to scan websites for viruses or blocking sites tht might be dangerous. I know Chrome automatically does that if you enable it in the settings, and I believe there are programs that can check for you as well.

    2. The ways I like to protect myself on the internet is by making sure that I DON’T save my passwords online. I try not to let any website save my passwords on a computer, because if somebody comes along and opens up the same site, they could easily log into my account.

    3. I’ve never really had security issues in the past, and I’m pretty confident in my ability to keep up the job. I might look into a more secure way to buy things online, but other than that, everything I feel like I do is safe enough.

  21. 1.A) Be cautious when downloading software. Only install software from reputable sources.
    B) Install Antivirus and Antimalware software along with a firewall.
    C) Do not visit any sketchy websites.
    e. I have Malwarebytes, several chrome extensions supporting security and encryptions, Avast antivirus, Malwarebytes Anti Exploit, Sandboxie, and a keylogger.

    3. In the future I will continue to use these programs. as well as exercise caution on the interne
