Samsung
Apple
Sony

1. Describe all three smart watches? (Explain in detail) (Make sure you do your research)

2. Describe a feature from each watch you like?

3. Which watch would be your choice? (Explain why in detail)

  1. 1.a. The Samsung Gear S is a smart watch developed by Samsung to sync up to your android device and act as a secondary screen for your phone so you don't need to pull out your phone and its linked you ok google so you can google whatever you need and it will give you detailed information depending on what you google it also has a curved display to better fit on your wrist and to look sleeker.

    b. The apple watch it another smartwatch and has the same basic features as the Samsung but instead of ok google it uses their digital assistant siri to look up your requested information and has a more friendly vibe because its a talking assistant so you feel more comfortable with.

c.The Sony Smartwatch 3 is pretty much the same as the Samsung Gear and apple watch there isn't any features that are different from the other watches besides not having siri it doesn't stand out really.

    2. On the Samsung I like the curved screen because I feel like it feels better in a average day compared to flat smart watches. On the apple watch I like having siri because it adds a bit of personality to the watch. The Sony watch doesn't really have anything that stick out to me that the other don't already have but it is cheaper not by much but is still cheaper and that can be deal sealer for some people.

    3. The Samsung watch because like I said the curved screen is much more comfortable and sleeker and I feel it would fit better then a flat watch and the curved screen does make it look better then the other watches.

  2. 1a. The Samsung Gear S is Samsung's latest foray into the ever-more-popular wearable tech market. The watch is able to be connected to cell towers and mobile data with its own SIM card, so you can buy and use a Samsung Gear S without having to own a normal Samsung phone (*cough* Apple *cough*).

1b. The Apple Watch is Apple's latest new addition to their steadily growing wearable tech market. What's different about this one compared to the original Apple Watch? Absolutely not the name, not its' functionality (it still requires you have an iPhone with you), the only thing that's changed are a few casing and graphical facelifts to keep up with the times.

1c. The Sony Smartwatch 3 SWR50 is Sony's latest addition to the wearable tech race, and by far the most impressive. The Smartwatch 3 has a 1.6 inch, 320 x 320 pixel screen with all the fixin's you find in most phones these days, including a quad-core 1.2 GHz CPU, 512 MB of RAM, and 4GB of onboard storage. In addition, it can accept its own SIM card (putting it on par with the Gear S in terms of functionality), and it's waterproof (putting it ahead, in my opinion).

    2. The Samsung watch by far had the biggest screen, and the curvature of the device was intriguing. The Sony smartwatch, on the other hand, had a fairly small and unobtrusive screen, as well as waterproofing, a big plus in my opinion. The Apple Watch had absolutely nothing that interested me.

    3. Far and away, the one I would be most inclined to get is the Sony SmartWatch 3. I'm not saying I'd ever actually get one, but I'd be most likely to get Sony's latest entry. The waterproofing is a big plus, and the fact that its specs were so easy to find (Sony had posted them directly on the website) makes it clear that they're attempting to market to my demographic.

  3. 1.All 3 of these smart watches are literally just extensions of the companies respective phones. down hardware and cool software capabilities like making it a secondary screen so you don't have to whip you phone out of your pocket. Its not capable of much more than what your phone can already do
2.As i described in the first section, it can be used as a secondary screen. That is so useful as i often take out my phone to check something real quick, and put it away.
3.The apple watch since i have an iphone, there would be next to no point in owning

  4. 1) The Samsung Gear S is a smart watch that acts as a secondary device for your phone. You can sync just about anything from your android phone to the watch and then go out in to the world without your phone. The watch does just about as much as a phone. Next, is the Apple watch which has built in siri, along with all the other things that the previous watch had. Lastly is the Sony Smartwatch 3, which is also quite similar to the other watches.

    2) I like everything about the Samsung watch especially it being curved which will help me wear the watch like they do in the military and Japan. I guess for the Apple watch the most useful thing would probably be siri. As for the Sony watch, it's nothing too impressive compared to the other watches.

    3) The Samsung watch is my choice because I'm a Samsung fan and it would be helpful to have in tandem with my phone.

  5. 1.) The Samsung Gear S is the latest and most advanced piece of technology that Samsung has created so far. The watch is able to make calls, check time, it even has it's own SIM card. It's basically having a Samsung phone already! The Apple watch is the first out of all of the smart watches that are coming out as of right now. Apple seems to be the bright mind that doesn't know what to do with it's own creations. I say this because they were the first to create the iPhone, but was out ruled by Samsung and making their product better than the other. Now that Apple's created a watch, now Samsung will most likely destroy Apple with another mind blowing creation. Finally, the Sony SmartWatch is again Sony's latest technology selling, and in my opinion, it just plain copying instead of making it better.

2.) The Apple watch can make FaceTime calls, and check your heartbeat. It's design is also inspired by a sink drain. Reference: http://goo.gl/xEUuHS | The Samsung has the biggest screen out of all of them. The Sony isn't necessary, since it has all of those features and nothing new.

3.) Samsung, since I've been a Samsung this entire time and I know that Samsung will once again over rule against Apple and Sony.

  6. 1. All three of these smart watches are designed to be a secondary screen to smart phones. Making their smart phones more accessible and convenient to use in light use. The apple watch runs apple os, the smartwatch android wear, and the Samsung runs tison os. All of them make it easier to complete simple tasks normally done on one's smart phone right from your wrist.

    2. The apple watch has superior build quality with very strong glass. The Samsung watch has it's own sim card, adding the ability to interact with cellular networks completely independent form the user's smartphone. Making the smartphone not mandatory for use with the cellular networks including, data, calls, and text. The sony smarwtch has google now, which is especially useful to mobile wear, as it displays information which can be custimized by the user, and auto calculated in the background.

    3. I would buy the apple watch due to it's superior build quality as well as comparability with IOS devices. This works best for me, it also is more friendly for exercise as it has a heart rate monitor.

  7. 1. The Samsung Gear S allows you to be untethered from your phone as it has its own SIM Card, so you can accept calls and text messages from your wrist, through the Tizen OS. Apple’s Watch must be within range of your iPhone in order to function, but still acts as a secondary screen for your notifications, and checking social media. Sony’s Smartwatch 3 has the same functions as the Apple Watch, as you can still get your notications, but with an iPhone or an Android phone.

    2. On the Gear S my personal favorite feature is the curved display as it will better form with the wrist, rather than a flat screen. For the Apple watch, my favorite feature they added is the customization you can do with the looks of the watching. Finally, for the Sony Smartwatch 3, Google Now is its best feature as you can ask anything you would ask your phone, but from your wrist.

    3. Personally, I would choose the newest version of the Gear S (Gear S2), as I prefer what Samsung has done with its OS, as Watch OS 2.0 and Android Wear are still in their adolescent phase, but I’m sure with new versions my mind will change.

  8. All three of the smartwatches are pretty much the same except for their native operating system. Both the sony and the Samsung smartwatch run on android wear while the apple smartwatch is running a new proprietary firmware. The Samsung watch operating system is Tizen based, which is fundamentally built up from the same architecture as android wear, but has a different look to it. This mirrors how Samsung likes to add a TouchWiz launcher to all their mobile devices.
As far as day-to-day functionality, all these watches function the same. The main difference is what devices they are compatible with, apple with ios, and Tizen/android wear functions with Android, Linux, and Windows phones.
There are not that many distinguished features between these different devices other than aesthetic. I’m not sure if this is a “feature”, but the Samsung and sony watches have a longer battery life that can get an actual power user throughout the day. All of them have voice recognition, text to speech, and some sort of virtual assistant that you can communicate with.
The only distinguishing feature of these smartwatches that you would use on a day-to-day basis is Todoist premium that comes with the sony smartwatch. You can get Todoist for the Samsung Gear, However, you will have to pay for a premium subscription as they do not have a promotional contract like sony has.
There are gimmick differences between the three devices like different fancy colors or curved displays like on the Samsung Gear S. However none of these things actually matter for the functionality of the device as a tool
I suppose for the apple watch there is facetime integration. However, there is also skype integration on the two android devices.
The main difference between smartwatches at this time is really just flavor and aesthetic. The battery life on these devices have not evolved enough to support always-on voice commands, or even always-on displays. Most smartwatches require an awkward hand gesture just to get the screen to wake up. At the end of the day, the technology has not yet evolved enough for smartwatches to be used as a tool. With poor software integration, lackluster battery life, and clunky user interfaces, smartwatches don’t give any more efficiency than a phone.
This brings up the question, what is a smartwatch really for? They were originally hailed as time-saving tools that could put all the information of the internet into a handy device on your wrist. However, the technology for that is just not there yet. So, who is a smartwatch for? Ultimately, right now, smart watches are like fancy divers watches with barometers, time, month, year and humidity sensors. You would never use most of these features. However, people wear them as a stylistic item. It is an accessory that shows off taste, social status, and personality. Smartwatches are in a similar spot right now. They have tons of gimmicks and fancy tools like heart rate monitors and other similar sensors. However, very few people will use these features. It has more to do with style. This is why there are so many stylistic choices that you can make with all the smartwatches. Some of them look sporty with bright color bands that could show your athletic personality. There is an industrial look with the metal bands. Or perhaps you want to go with a more analog style with a traditional leather strip for the band. Ultimately, the style is the most important feature to the individuals with these devices. It is a statement about the person. Not as much a tool.

So, which smartwatch would I like? None out of these three. I like the moto 360 watch. It has nothing to do with functionality of the device. It has to do with the aesthetic. It is round and has a very traditional, and warm look to it. Combined with a brown wrist strap, I think that it fits my style and has a very warm, welcoming look to it. It is not as sharp or flamboyant as the large, bright OLED curved displays on the Samsung or as industrial looking as the Sony Watch.

  9. 1. a. The Samsung Gear S is a smartwatch designed by Samsung into their "Gear" series (the same series my bluetooth earbuds are from). You can link it to your phone and it can act kind of like a second screen so that you don't have to take your phone out of your pocket.
    b. Another smartwatch but this comes with Siri (overpriced and overrated as apple usually is)
    c. The Sony SmartWatch 3 SWR50 seems to be less capable than the other smart watches, and looks a bit more robust and average.
    2. The Samsung Gear S connects to the same app i have my earbuds connect to, so that syngerizes really well. The Apple watch has nice looking straps. The SmartWatch 3 has a more normal watch look.
    3. The Samsung Gear S cause I have a samsung phone and already have the Gear Circle.

  10. 1. a The samsung gear s has a clock, heartbeat monitor, the same thing as every other watch on the list but it has the biggest screen of them all.
    b. the apple watch has a clock, activity monitor, and who cares about the other stuff cause ain't nobody got time for that.
    c. the sony smartwatch 3 has the same features so why am i talking about each watch idk don't ask me.

    2. the samsung gear s has phone feature and i can call in food cause im lazy, the apple watch has a feature where the watch will get bigger cause its small and nobody is buying it cause its a money scam. the sony smarwatch 3 has a clock and its the same as the apple watch but a litt ebetter.

    3. I like the samsung gear s the most because I can order food from it (papa johns all day) and it's the most entertaining out of the three watches cause it got music. P.S apple is bad.

  11. 1. a. The Samsung Gear S has a bigger curved screen, a clock, a heart beat monitor, it's own music streaming system.

    b. The Apple Watch has a digital crown, which is this little knob on the side that allows you to use that instead of the touch screen. It has a clock, it's own apple activity and apple work out apps, as well as apple pay and Siri. If you are a fan of apple, it is a must have.

    c. The Sony Smartwatch 3 does what the others do, but it has Android Wear synced up with it. You can download any app that comes out on there.

    2. I like the curved screen and the music streaming software on the Samsung Gear S. Siri on the apple watch is pretty cool. And the Sony Smartwatch has Android Wear.

    3. Personally I would get the Samsung Gear S because it looks more appealing than the others and I like it's features better.

  12. 1.) All of the smartwatches share similar smartphones esc. capabilities. I'll use this question to describe what makes each unit stand out. The Samsung unit is able to make phone calls (not just text messages) and has a curved 360 x 480 display. The Apple watch is the only Apple product compatible device on this list, so if you have an i-Phone, you don't have much of a choice. The Sony unit is nicely water protected. Aside from these points there are similar in function (not including OS).

    2. I like that the Samsung model has a large display. I haven't worked with any curved screens before though. I like the Siri compatibility with the Apple product. I also really like how the Sony unit has 'many functions' without the need of a smartphone.

    3. Of these 3, I'd probably get the Samsung unit. I feel like this is more about the brand that the actual product though, i'm probably just super biased.

  13. 1. The Samsung watch is basically like having a smartphone on your wrist, except with a much smaller screen and less capabilities. The Apple watch has a sleeker, more friendly looking design, but also, is just basically a smartphone on your wrist, with the pedometer, clock, alarms, and notifications. Lastly, Sony's Smartwatch seems to be the least impressive of the three, only because it doesn't seem to be bringing anything new to the table, other than being an android phone on your wrist.

    2. I like the curved screen from the Samsung watch, I like the customizable options that the Apple Watch has, and I like the Todoist from Sony's watch, that syncs all of your notifications together with other devices.

    3. I would probably go with the Samsung Gear S. It just looks cooler than the others, and I'm happy with it's features.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 1) The Samsung Gear S is basically a drastically less functional phone on your wrist, with calling functionality, email, texting, and a few other features. The Apple watch has access to texting, siri, apple pay, and all of the fitness apps. It is also much sleeker and has a much larger variety of color and design. The Sony watch has the same features as all the others, but is the only one that is listed as waterproof.

    2) I like the Apple watch because I can buy it in gold. Yes, actual gold.

    3) If I had to buy one, I'd go with the Samsung Gear S because its the cheapest and has no less features than the others. If I won one in a lottery or something I go with the Apple watch because it has the highest retail value.

  15. 1. All three watches are fundamentally similar- they are the interface of a smartwatch, but on one's wrist. Both the Apple Watch and Sony's smartwatch are designed to work along with a phone- they have a few standalone capabilities, but without a phone, they aren't extremely useful. On the other hand, the Samsung smartwatch is designed to be used both with and without a phone. Their site describes the watch replacing a phone on a hike, perhaps, or allowing one to run to the store while still in a call without bringing a phone with. This is an improvement over the Apple Watch or the Sony watch, in terms of standalone ability, but it still can't replace a phone completely.

    2. Probably the best feature of these watches is the ability to use them with calls. Smartwatches allow for a new level of productivity for those who rely on calls and emails for their jobs- a smart interface attached to one's wrist is much more efficient than pulling out a phone every few minutes to look over emails, or call a new person. All of those features are found right on the wrist.

    3. My pick would probably have to be the Samsung Gear S. The fact that it does not have to be within range of one's phone is quite appealing, because a smartwatch would probably be more of a replacement to a phone on certain occasions than anything. The design, to me, is slightly trivial- I am fine with practically anything, as long as it is not glaringly ugly.

  16. 1. Every single watch serves the same purpose with very small details that vary. They all connect to wifi, allow you to text, call, e-mail, keep time, and a million other impossible things made available with both built-in and downloadable apps. The Samsung Gear S is different because the screen is curved to the contours of your wrist. I guess it’s supposed to be more comfortable. The Apple Watch is nice because of the knob on the side that allows you to manipulate the screen without obstructing your view. It is also built-in with a timeline of your complications that you enter into it so you can stay on top of what your have going on. I could find nothing unique about the Sony Smartwatch besides overall layout, design, and aesthetic. It accomplishes the exact same things as the other watches such as being voice activated and every other bell and whistle.
    2. The only difference between the Samsung Gear S and its competitors is the design and layout which I’m not particularly partial to. I like how the Apple Watch has Apple Pay and the Samsung has that too but it doesn’t serve my phone servicer or my bank. The Sony has nothing unique to it compared to the other 2 watches.
    3. All of the watches have the same capabilities so the only influencing factor in buying one is the price or whichever company you’re already invested in in other areas. I am invested in none of them as I do not have a smartphone or anything like that. So I would choose the Sony Smartwatch because it does pretty much everything the others do for less than half the price.

  18. 1. The Samsung Gear S Smartwatch allows you to leave your phone at home a never miss a call or message, download all your favorite apps, and has a contoured design so its comfortable to wear. The Apple Watch has implemented Siri, also receives every notification your iPhone does, and has "Apple Pay." Sony's SmartWatch 3 SWR50 replaces your phone, you get all your texts calls and emails on the watch, you get all your music and apps too, and has plenty of customization.

    2. I like the curved screen that the Samsung Gear S has. The Apple Watch's "Apple Pay" feature seems interesting. And I like all of the customization that Sony's SmartWatch has.

    3. I think I would like the Samsung Gear S, the curved screen really sells me. And I have a bit of Prejudice towards Sony, I've always been an XBox fan.

I never really liked Apple's products.

    1. The Samsung gear s: This device is a watch that has a heartbeat monitor, built-in phone interface and is able to run apps.
2.The Apple Watch: This is a watch that is similar to the previous one with an activity monitor and the ability to use itunes and phone interface.
3.The Sony Smartwatch 3: The Sony watch is pretty much identical to the other two except with a smaller screen than the samsungs and cant run itunes since its not apple

    2. I like the large screen and syncing capability from samsung
Apple has itunes where i have a lot of music on
    Sony... has... android wear store?

    3. I personally like the samsung s gear because it is able to be synced to the tv and the larger screen helps for an already small screen. They all pretty much do the same thing but with different little tweaks.

  20. 1. Lets start with the Samsung gear. It is quite simple. It acts just like a Samsung phone with less apps. It does allow you to call other people when separated from your phone. Next is the Sony watch which is the same as the Samsung gear with an golf app. And last but not least the apple watch. This thing is impressive with a super strong screen with better sensors, a special alloy case and interchangeable straps. It has all the apps you can think of except games (sorry no flappy bird). It also has a special app that allows the user to send messages to other apple watches by drawing.

    2. The Samsung watch has a nice music app that allows you to very conveniently control your music. The best thing on the sony watch is that it can be separated from the phone. The apple watch has an amazing screen that has very precise touch capability.

    3. The apple watch because of its multiplicity of abilities. Too bad it is not compatible with Samsung phones because I want it due to it being able to due too much.

  22. 1. The Samsung Gear is a simple tech watch and has a good size screen with the ability to be separated form the phone its connected to. The SmartWatch 3 is similar to the Gear but is smaller and has interchangeable bands. Finally the Apple Watch has more durability than both of the Gear and the SmartWatch. it also has many apps that can be useful to the wearer.

    2. From the gear I like the size of the screen. The SmartWatch has the interchangeable bands. And the apple Watch has the multitude of apps.

    3. I would prefer the Gear because of its larger screen and the ability to leave the phone.
