  1. 1.) Hedy Lamarr is an American and Australian actor and inventor who created the radar-jamming mechanism during World War II. This mechanism was meant to keep Nazi radars jammed so they couldn't tell when and where their enemies were coming from. Hedy was not trained in any way to be an inventor or anything and she didn't have a degree of any sort for this kind of thing, she in fact was the founder of the somewhat famous quote, “Any girl can be glamorous. All you have to do is stand still and look stupid.” She grew up to be an actor mainly and invented as sort of a hobby. She was also once voted the most beautiful woman in the world. If it weren't for her invention, the Nazi's could have taken an even bigger catastrophic blow to all of their enemies. If I were an engineer I'd want to be an electrical engineer who deals with the study of energy. Why? I'm not sure it just interests me I guess. To think about being able to store energy more efficiently is a really cool concept. If we could somehow today store the energy from a lightning bolt, we probably wouldn't need oil so badly and Lightning doesn't just stop coming, its infinite as far as we know.

  2. Seymour Cray was an electrical engineer and supercomputer architect who designed some of the fastest computers in the world. He was born in 1925 and died in 1996. He designed the basis of every supercomputer that is currently on the market. He was also the Chief of Staff for HP. In 1997, an award was established after Cray's death, awarded to creative computer designed that exemplify Cray's mood towards supercomputer innovation and development.

Cray did not "necessarily" invent the supercomputer, but developed and researched after them.

I would be a software engineer because you do not have much of a creative limit. If you can think of a realistic program mathematically and conceptually, you can code it. Also, good software engineers make good money.

  3. Nathaniel Baldwin was a revolutionary inventor and engineer. He is known for the invention of headphones. He was bourne December 1, 1878 and died on January 19, 1961. Basically he is one of the fathers of modern sound, without him, we wouldn't have a lot of the awesome fun music tools we have now. He also helped move towards mormon religion and the spread of it, which kinda is a lost of respect for me, but still an awesome dude.

He invented the headphones. Basically the father of all modern sound equipment.

I would love to go into sound engineering. Creating different sounds and music sounds so much fun. But of course i would be so very much bias on the sounds i produce. I also just feel that the field in general is so large you can do anything with it.

  4. 1. Ferdinand Porsche was the person that created the company we know today as Porsche motor company. He founded the company in 1932, he created the Volkswagen beetle etc. He worked closely with Hitler in creating a car for the average person which he achieved. He ended up dying in 1951 at the age of 75 in Germany.

    2. Like I said he created the Volkswagen, he also created a tank for the germans but it was a failure on the battlefield. His son carried on the company and made Porsche what it is today.

    3. I would be a car engineer because I like cars and I think it would be fun. You would also get rich designing cars.

  5. Find a famous engineer. Describe the person in detail. What did they invent? Describe in detail.
Palmer Luckey invented the Oculus Rift and is the founder of Oculus VR. He was wanting some sort of virtual reality machine in order to increase immersion into a game, but he couldn't find any products that he was satisfied with. Most of the technologies were way too expensive, large, heavy, and we're not very good. So he set out to make his own VR device that was lightweight, cheap, and had a large field of vision. He made a prototype and crowd funded his project on the website Kickstarter. Over the course of about a year he had full working prototypes to send out to developers.

What kind of engineer would you be? Why? Describe in detail.
I would be an engineer that would try and look for different technologies that have been tackled before, but not been executed well. I want to find ways to improve inventions that already exist to make them more practical and reasonable.

  6. One of the most famous engineers in the world would have to be Steve Wozniak. On August 11, 1950, he was born in San Jose, California, and he is still alive today. He is an American computer scientist who is also one of the founding members of Apple. Steve Wozniak, Steve Jobs, and Ronald Wayne founded Apple Computers in 1976. Steve Wozniak was one of Steve Jobs' oldest and best friends. He and Jobs together formed Apple out of Jobs' garage.

Steve Wozniak, Steve Jobs, and Ronald Wayne invented the Apple I Computer. The Apple I was Apple's first product. All it needed was a keyboard and a television set. Adding on, Steve Wozniak also personally developed/invented the Apple II Computer.

I would be a video editing engineer. I enjoy editing video using Sony Vegas. This is because I love the challenge of changing a bunch of random, meaningless clips together to form an excellent finished product (video). Also because their average salary is one hundred and five grand a year.

  7. One of the biggest up and coming engineers is Elon Musk, the co-founder of Tesla motors and SpaceX. Elon is South African born and spent most of his early life there. He was an inventor and salesman since early on, buying his first computer at ten and selling his first piece of software at the age of 12. He went on to attend very prestigious colleges throughout North America and became a rather successful entrepreneur. He is known to be intelligent, creative, and charming. Fun fact; Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark was modeled after Elon Musk after Robert spent a week with Elon.

Mr. Musk first created the company X.com which later turned into paypal. After this venture he created Tesla motors and helped to design the most efficient electric cars that there has ever been. Through his engineering he was able to completely flip the worlds views on electric cars and the capabilities of them. He then created SpaceX, a space exploration company on par with that of NASA. SpaceX is currently competing with NASA to develop rockets that will be able to safely transfer men to mars.

I believe I would personally follow a similar avenue that Mr. Musk did. I would be a business man as well as an engineer, using my salesmanship to help increase my ability to create new innovation. I believe that it will take people with this way of thinking to bridge the gap that the public has on the subject of innovation.

  8. J. Robert Oppenheimer is often called the "father of the atomic bomb" for leading the Manhattan Project, the program that developed the first nuclear weapon during World War II.Born in New York City in 1904, physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer served as director of the Los Alamos Laboratory during the development of the atomic bomb. After the 1939 invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany, Oppenheimer was selected to administer a laboratory to carry out the Manhattan Project, the program that developed the first nuclear weapon during World War II. My Great-Grandfather actually worked closely with him during the Manhattan Project and I have a letter what he wrote and signed hanging in my room.

He was in charge of the Manhattan Project that produced the first Atomic Bombs that would later be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end WWII. However once he saw how devastating the bombs were he resigned from his post. He choose that in order to keep the weapon from the Nazis, America must have the weapon first.

I'm honestly not sure what type of engineer I would be as I do not want to become one in the future. However it would be cool to be known as the next great innovator, however I want to be known as a great cinematographer who added something of value to Hollywood.

  9. I would choose the Dyson guy, he designed a whole bunch of really cool inventions. He was also British, not was though, he is still alive. He made a better wheel for the wheel barrel. He made the most popular vacuum ever. He also is working on solving world hunger, so he's a neat guy.

I would be a regular engineer who designs regular stuff like rockets and microscopes.

  10. DeGiorgio is the inventor I chose. This engineer played a big role in General Motor cars. He is best known for his invention commonly referred to as the "switch from hell." This was an ignition switch which did not even follow specifications laid out by the US government, he was that much of an idealist. He is truly remarkable. Who else could come up with an ignition from scratch, then stand by it regardless of how many deaths it caused? I fall into the cliche here of rooting for the underdog.

I would invent a car with cool features such as digital side mirrors or undercarriage lighting to show when the car is changing lanes. I actually plan on attending ASU for engineering in the next school year.
